Woven Art Yarn Shop is providing free knit and crochet lessons to MSU students and employees who are trying to find a way forward from the 2/13/23 mass shooting event on campus.
All materials are provided at no cost and each participant will be given yarn and the necessary supplies to make their knit or crochet cowl in Spartan Green. All classes are being taught by volunteers from the Greater Lansing area.
We no longer need donations of needles and hooks thanks to our fiber community, and generous donations from Bryson Distributing and Chiaogoo.
If you would like help to defray the cost of yarn and other supplies and costs, you may do so here.
At this time we no longer need volunteers to sign up. Thank you so much for the strong response to our calls for help.
If you are a MSU student or employee who would like to sign up for classes, please fill out the google form here and we will be in touch.
Any money raised not used directly to cover the cost of yarn, supplies, and related costs will be held in a Student Scholarship fund so those interested can continue to take classes at no cost to them. If interest wanes, all remaining funds will be donated to the Sparty Fund.
As of 9/22/23 we have over 102 volunteers signed up, and have taught 154 students and employees how to knit or crochet. Free classes will resume in September 202.
